Review Policies & About Me

ABOUT ME

Hi there!

I figured I should probably introduce myself and say something because, well, because that's what people do, right.

I started out my tenure in short fiction reviewing at Tangent Online (though I cannot recommend following in those footsteps). I've been a contributor to Nerds of a Feather, Flock Together as the short fiction specialist (you can find most of my work through this tag), mostly from late 2014 to 2018. I was part of the Smuggler Army at The Book Smugglers (find my work under this tag) off and on from 2018 to 2021. I've also been a reviewer for Bookreporter, mostly with Teenreads and Kidsreads. Through all of that I also ran Quick Sip Reviews, starting in January of 2015 and covering a wide range of short speculative fiction until I finished my coverage of 2021. Most recently, I have a short fiction review column at Locus Magazine (you can find my work through this tag), which started in 2022. I also have a Patreon where I post recommendations, tipsy reviews of Goosebumps books and X-Men comics, and where I share the occasional original and reprint story and poetry.

I am also on Twitter as: @ClowderofTwo ( still quite active follow button should be on this very page)

I am kinda sorta active on Goodreads and review all sorts of things there:
Charles Payseur's Goodreads Page

And I guess I have a Facebook page here (mostly inactive)

If you need to get in contact of me direct, you can drop a line at:
cypayseur@gmail.com

Otherwise, feel free to contact me via Twitter or Goodreads with questions or concerns and don't hesitate to comment on the blog itself.

Bio

Charles Payseur is an avid reader, writer, and reviewer of speculative fiction. His works have appeared in The Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy, Lightspeed Magazine, and Beneath Ceaseless Skies, among others, and many are included in his debut collection, The Burning Day and Other Strange Stories (Lethe Press 2021). He is the series editor of the Locus Award winning We’re Here: The Best Queer Speculative Fiction (Neon Hemlock Press) and a multiple-time Hugo and Ignyte Award finalist for his work at Quick Sip Reviews. When not drunkenly discussing Goosebumps, X-Men comic books, and his cats on his Patreon (/quicksipreviews) and Twitter (@ClowderofTwo), he can probably found raising a beer with his husband, Matt, in their home in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

REVIEW POLICIES (for Quick Sip Reviews only)
As of January 2022 I am no longer consistently reviewing short fiction on Quick Sip Reviews, though I am still providing personal updates, and still running my Patreon where I provide recommendations, reviews, and more. This site will remain an archive of my work over the seven years I ran reviews on QSR.

1. I try to review every original piece of short fiction and poetry out at the venues I cover. If I have missed something and you noticed, please let me know. I no longer review nonfiction.

2. I review some reprints from some venues some of the time. It is completely discretionary and rather rare and so please do not ask me to cover reprints. Sorry.

3. Authors (or editors, agents, etc) can consider this explicit consent to excerpt in part or in whole any review I do of your work (of the work of your client, publication, etc.). I do ask to be attributed by name and venue where possible (so, Charles Payseur, Quick Sip Reviews).

4. Other people wanting to excerpt in part or in whole any of my reviews: okay this might get a little complicated. I am completely okay if you want to link to either specific reviews or to my site in general, and give permission to use excerpts from my review work to that end (yes, even if you want to post negative comments about it), again, with attribution. However, if you want to use my reviews in some sort of aggregating or ranking/rating system please ask me first via the email listed below (or social media or whatever).

5. Authors (and only authors here): if you take issue with any of my reviews of your work for any reason and want the review no longer to appear on this site, please contact me and I will take it down. If you don't want me to review your work any more for any reason, please contact me and I will honor your request. If after asking me to no longer review your work you change your mind, please contact me and I will begin reviewing your work again when it appears in venues that I cover.

6. Cheers!

  1. Wow! A reviewer really UNDERSTOOD my poem. Thank you for your attention and insight.

Would it be possible to correct the spelling of my last name in your Labels directory?
